Keep Justice Bailey Moseley - 6th Court of Appeals

If you look up the word "justice" in the Merriam-Webster Collegiate dictionary, you'll find reference to these qualities:  "just, impartial, and fair" and "conforming to law."  The definition also includes "conformity to truth, fact, or reason." 
 
As prescribed by the Texas Constitution, when I took the oath of office as Justice, I vowed that I would to the "best of my ability preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States and of this State, so help me God."
 
Since my election to the 6th Court of Appeals, it has been my pleasure to use all of my ability to honor the oath of office I took and to do justice as it has been defined above.  It is my belief that the role of judges is to seek out and apply the laws - not to attempt to manufacture laws to suit the circumstances as they arise. This seems to me to be a violation of their oaths and is more like doing "that which was right in his own eyes," as described unfavorably in Judges 21:25. 
 
My work as a judge is a known quantity and a proven quality. The opinions I have written and the positions I have taken are public records for all to examine.  I pledge to continue my quest to seek justice by preserving, protecting, and defending the constitutions and laws of this nation and this State.  With the aid of a loving and all-powerful God, I believe I can do so.
 
I ask the voters of the 6th Appellate District of Texas to do me the honor of renewing my term on the Court so I can continue to fulfill the oath that I have taken.
