Race for Judicial Seat Heats Up

Excerpts from story...
A heated race in the Republican primary for 6th Judicial Court of Appeals in Texarkana brought high level judicial candidates to the Chamber of Commerce forum Tuesday, an unusual occurrence for an important but often obscure race.
The race opened up when incumbent Democrat Don Ross announced he would not seek re-election.
All candidates were at the forum Tuesday except Moseley, who was represented by his son, Chris Moseley. The son brought with him endorsements from the Texas Civil Justice League and Texans for Lawsuit Reform.
Quoting from the Texas Civil Justice League endorsement, Moseley said of his father, “his conservative judicial philosophy, legal scholarship and dedication to the public service will contribute to a fair and balanced court.”
Bailey Moseley has practiced law in the 6th District for 35 years. He is a fifth-generation Texas and life-long resident of Harrison County.

Following the forum, Bruder addressed concerns about his candidacy as he talked about mailings he understood had been sent to several newspapers, including The Paris News.
“I welcome the opportunity to explain,” Bruder said Wednesday about two probated suspensions (1993 and 1994) and a 60-day suspension to his law license handed down by the State Bar of Texas in 1999.
If you understand how the state bar and grievance committee works, the fact they gave me probated suspensions and didn’t yank my license proves I didn’t do anything criminal,” Bruder said. “I did it once out of ignorance and other times out of necessity to immediately pay client creditors.”
“Never a penny was ever missed, lost, converted or stolen,” Bruder said of transactions involving transferring client monies into a general account rather than a trust account before paying client creditors.
“In every one of these occasions I was notified I had violated specific rules,” Bruder said. “I agreed with the committee, accepted their conclusions and punishments.”
